“Granny’s Traditional Preserves” were such a hit at the Extravaganza that the preservers in our group have become ambitious and want to do even better in 2015! We received lots of good suggestions from our customers and have decided that we should work throughout the year as the seasons change to avoid a last minute rush and can freeze or juice produce for use when we’re ready.

To achieve our goal we need help from Grannies, specifically:

  • Donations of Mason jars of all sizes but especially 125, 250 and 500 ml (jars can be brought to our meetings or contact Lorna Reid (250-951-9680) for pickup.
  • Donations of produce as it becomes available in your gardens – fruit of all kinds including rhubarb, beets, onions, garlic and herbs such as dill and mint.
  • Volunteers who will make pickles, relish, jams, chutneys, jellies etc. either in their own home or with a working group.
  • Volunteers who would enjoy decorating the completed jars for the sale.

If you would like to join the group please contact Lorna Reid at lornareid@shaw.ca

Would you like to be a g2g photographer?

Happy New Year, everyone. As 2015 starts, are you interested in a new role within Oceanside Grandmothers to Grandmothers?  Would you like to help me with photography?  This will involve covering g2g events for the web and for archives (for brochures, slideshows etc). It will also involve taking photos of new members for the Directory.

You need basic skills of digital photography: how to take clear pictures, how to ensure they are at least 1MB in size, how to send them to me without reducing image size.  Beyond that, we can talk together about other features of photos that make them most useful for the website or the Directory.  If you have a mac computer, you might also consider taking on photo enhancement, sizing, and so forth — fun stuff — but that’s not essential.

I’d really welcome one of our newer members volunteering for this role — someone not already involved in a lot of g2g projects.  Please reply directly to me, at either my personal email address in the Directory or at oceansideg2g@shaw.ca  I’d like to have a new photographer in place before our next meeting (Tuesday, January 20), which I am going to miss.

Faces and names: getting to know each other better

In preparation for the social lunch on Sunday, December 7, you may want to refresh your memory on faces and names of other members of our group.  The up-to-date Directory is ready for download in Members Only section of our g2g website, and so is a page (updated today) with the photos and names of members who have joined during 2014.  Click on this link below, with your password in mind:

See you there!

Extravaganza Thank you!!

Thank you and Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the success of the Extravaganza 2014!! We certainly outdid ourselves and have set the bar higher for next year. So many customers said that this was the only Craft Fair that they came to as we had the best ‘stuff’ and our cause is good!

We have so many people who helped make this possible both on the scene and behind it….from our ‘Men with Trucks’, and all their helpers who moved things to and from the locker and Our ‘Second Story Man’ who made and hung signs and improvised lighting, to our helpers that made myriad knitted and sewn items that were wonderful….the ‘mouse’ business will be a staple for sure. And then there are all the bakers and cooks who produced such fabulous goodies that flew off of the shelves. Our crafters and artists are beyond compare!

The floor helpers moved and shuffled and filled spots that kept the tables looking full and inviting. And then there were the volunteers who worked the Cashier Table. They sat for long periods never looking up and rarely left their post to make sure it was a very quick process and did a magnificent job of taking in our proceeds with cheer and warmth. The mulled apple juice and the treats topped off the experience.

Thanks, too, to our wonderful sponsors and donors!!

Thank you all very everything you did, we couldn’t have done it without each and every one!!!

The note below is from Mary-Anne

Hi Ladies,

You simply are an outstanding bunch of women! Your generosity to provide such top quality baking and then packaged so beautifully made the bake table a success. The recurring comments I had the pleasure of hearing were “what a great variety” or “the presentation is so good”. We have earned a reputation as being “one of the best bake tables of the fairs” and this is because of you. Your hard work and creativity is very much appreciated. A heartfelt thank you and big hug is extended to each and every one of you!
