Unleashing creativity — for the Extravaganza

soaps500opt

Our group is rolling!  On Friday November 28 and Saturday November 29, we open the doors to our supporters.  Ahead of us are four short weeks of intense creativity, getting ready for the big event.

Rhoda Perron, Eleanor Thompson, and Kathy Grand made these cute children’s soaps. They had great fun making them — and will obviously contribute a lot of future fun to kids’ wash time!

October 21 meeting, minutes now on Members Only

posted by Eileen Dombrowski

The minutes of the meeting last Tuesday October 21 are now ready on the Members Only section of the website: https://oceansideg2g.org/for-members-only/archives-minutes-of-meetings/  For those who missed the meeting, the minutes will fill in important information, for instance about preparation for the Extravaganza November 28 and 29.

Next meeting: November 18.

Do you want an updated copy of the Directory?

posted by Eileen Dombrowski

Do you have an up-to-date copy of the Oceanside g2g Directory, with the latest photos and updated contact information?  I update the Directory shortly after each of our regular meetings (next update: one week from today), so that it’s a document that does go out of date.  If you don’t have a recent copy and would like one, you have two options:

1. To get a copy free, go to the Members Only section of the website, open the section entitled “Membership and the Directory”, and download a free copy of the Directory to your own computer. This is the normal way now for you to keep up to date on who is in our group and how to contact them.  You can print it out if you wish.

After a request at this morning’s meeting, though, I’m making a second option available to members this month only.

2. To get a printed copy made for you for $7, to be picked up and paid for at the next meeting on Tuesday, November 18, order one from Eileen Dombrowski. This will be a clear, high resolution copy in colour, done at Staples, and will include all corrections and additions done in the routine update next week.

I hope that offering this second option will create a good compromise between efficiency and comfort — the efficiency of computer updating and access, but the comfort of those who prefer not to struggle with downloading and printing. The professionally printed one does have the advantage that we all look just a little better in it because the higher resolution photos have more detail and are sharper. (They’re better for the complexion!)

To order:  Do not reply directly to this email.  Contact Eileen Dombrowski at edombrowski@shaw.ca.  Acknowledge that you know it will cost you $7 and that you have to pick it up at the November 18 meeting (or have someone else pick up and pay for your copy).  And…I’ll bring your copy along for you!  Deadline for orders:  Sunday, November 9.

best wishes,  Eileen

THE SLF AFRICA TRIP CALENDAR, some of you may have already heard about. I will send a separate email with a preview as an attachment. The Calendar will be sent out in boxes of 50, suggested sales price $20,-, cost of printing only $2,- thanks to sponsorship, cost of mailing only about $2.- per calendar if shipped in boxes of 50, and the foundation will ship them on consignment. An opportunity to share orders in nearby communities clearly available! For the Merville region: Tina is in one of the pictures!

THE SPEAKER BUREAU full set of documents has been uploaded to the Grandmother Campaign Website, in the members only section, which is password protected. If anyone needs the password, contact me. The material is very helpful, contains a super informative section 9part 1) of ‘what every grandmother in the campaign should know’ where I learned some things, and a sample presentation as well as tips for presenters, a great resource.

THE CANADIAN HUMAN RIGHTS MUSEUM opened in September, and the Winnipeg Grannies were invited to ‘yarn bomb a tree’ similar to the tree in Hillcrest, SA, with squares made by South African Grandmothers, which resulted in excellent publicity for SLF and the local group.

Warm regards to all,

Paxie Vreed, Regional Island Liaison
