Telephone Town Hall June 21, please help us spread the word

Dear Campaign GRLs and Main Contacts,

As you may have seen in our most recent Granny Bulletin, we’re hosting the first in a series of Telephone Town Halls for Grandmothers Campaign members! We would really appreciate if you could forward along this email to your group members, inviting them to join us on the call and to RSVP sometime this week.

What: Telephone Town Hall on the Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS (adopted by the United Nations on June 8, 2016)
When: June 21, 1:00pm Eastern Time
Where: Conference call information will be sent by email to those who RSVP
Who: Campaign members and Lee Waldorf, the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Director of Policy and former human rights advisor to the United Nations
How: RSVP to campaign@stephenlewisfoundation.org and we’ll send you the call details- it’s that easy 🙂
Please RSVP individually so we have a sense of how many people are joining us. However, if you know that a few members of your group want to call in, we encourage you to consider getting together and calling in from one phone on speaker to help reduce costs.
10 years into the Campaign, we have heard from many members about their desire to learn more about the HIV and AIDS pandemic and ‘where we are at’. This call will answer some of those questions for you, as the intention of the town hall is to give deeper insight into HIV and AIDS in Africa and the international response for all members of the Grandmothers Campaign!
On the call, Lee will give us an overview, including the role of governments and funders in response to the declaration and how it’s most likely to impact African community-based organizations. Lee is such a wealth of information, and we know you will love hearing from her. There will be an opportunity to ask questions, although you certainly don’t have to speak in order to participate!
You can read a press release from UNAIDS about the Political Declaration here: http://www.unaids.org/en/resources/presscentre/pressreleaseandstatementarchive/2016/june/20160610_PR_HLM_closer
And you can read the full Political Declaration here (although you certainly don’t have to read it to participate; it’s very dense!): http://www.unaids.org/en/resources/documents/2016/2016-political-declaration-HIV-AIDS

As always, please be in touch if you have any questions. We hope you can join us!

Thanks!
The Grandmothers Campaign team

Looking for Information

Hi Everyone,

Several ladies approached me at our last meeting asking if we would be entering the Parksville parade this year. For those of you who are new, we did walk in the parade a number of times but for the past two years we have not. There are a couple of reasons: one was the walk to too long for some of our members and the other was the attempt to get a flatbed truck which didn’t happen. Doreen suggested that perhaps some could walk part way and others could meet in the middle and walk the last half.  If you are interested please let Pam Vest know.(pamela.vest@gmail.com) If we have enough interest, we will pursue it.

Also has anyone been approached to host the Victoria cyclists? Are they in fact doing the tour this year?( lundine.carol@gmail.com)

Thank you,

Carol Lundine

Bottle Drive/Extravaganza Requests

1. The Bottle Brigade is still looking for volunteers to help with our Bottle & Can Drive on May 28th. The event has been reorganised to reduce the workload and streamline the process.
We need help with:
sorting & counting and clean up at our 2 sites – Return-It depot on Alberni Hwy. and Eaglecrest Golf Course
Eaglecrest will be working from 9.45 to 3.00. To sign up contact Carolyn at cadodd@shaw.ca or 250-468-5437 with the hours you are available
Return-It from 9.45 to 4.00. To sign up contact Lorna at lornareid@shaw.ca with the hours you are available
Sheila McConnell is organising the distribution of our advertising flyers to Chartwell and Eaglecrest. She has planned out short routes most can walk without trouble and has packages of flyers and maps.
Since we have cancelled the door-to-door pick up getting the word out is really important so if you can do some deliveries for us please contact Sheila at samcc@shaw.ca or 250-586-4485.
We also need Grannies to take flyers to distribute to your neighbours, friends, clubs etc for flyers contact lornareid@shaw.ca or 250-951-9680.
Please your e-mail to distribute the poster to everyone you know in the area. Word of mouth is a great tool!
Looking forward to another great fundraiser!

2. Looking towards the Extravaganza the Well Preserved Grannies are looking for RHUBARB to make yummy jams, jellies, chutneys etc. If you have a rhubarb patch that is doing well this year and you’d like to share some with us please contact lornareid@shaw.ca.
